The Scarran Decimator - Part 3

They were led directly to a large holding cell, their weapons confiscated. War Minister Akhna and Emporer Staleek, the two highest ranking in the Scarran military, joined them almost immediately. Sikozu hated being this close to them. She reminded herself that the ends justified the means.

The Scarrans knew too much about them and it didn’t take long for the Moya crew to realize there was a traitor among them. Staleek seemed convinced it was Scorpius, and ripped out his cooling mechanism. They gave Crichton one arn to give them the wormhole weapon, or Akhna would start torturing Rygel, who was currently carrying John and Aeryn’s child inside him, and left with him in tow.

Sikozu attended to Scorpius, who insisted Crichton tell the Scarrans nothing, while John and Aeryn conferred. Crichton agreed to make a deal.

While John met with Staleek, Sikozu tended Scorpius’ injury, make-shifting a temporary mend, and the Eidolon prepared to influence the Scarrans into a peaceful solution. The story he told Aeryn of the Peacekeeper’s origins, however, was filed away in Sikozu’s extensive memory.

The Scarrans continued to display their brutality. Lo’la was destroyed, D’Argo and Chiana along with it. Sikozu and Scorpius doubted the Eidolon’s ability to make peace. In her opinion, they would have to fight their way out. She and Aeryn argued about it until Crichton returned, insisting he had given Staleek nothing, but had arranged the return of Rygel and the baby. And finally, it seemed the Eidolon was ready.

When Staleek entered the cell to return Rygel, the Eidolon went to work, using his influence to convince the Emporer he wanted to resolve his conflict with the Peacekeepers without further aggression.

It was a truly surreal scene – all of them sitting down together, peacefully. Until Akhna arrived. She blasted the Eidolon, breaking the influence on Staleek, and they were back where they started. Their only hope was to put the Eidolon’s knowledge into Stark. Sikozu helped them force Stark into it, which only seemed to increase his insanity.

And then the embalming gas came.

“…preserves living tissue without harming the brain.” Scorpius explained, in his usual calm manner. “Scarrans use it on specimens they wish to dissect whilst they’re still alive.”

Aeryn tended to Rygel, trying to get him up above the gas. Crichton turned to Scorpius and Sikozu. “Is this stuff flammable?”

“Combustible.” Scorpis agreed, putting his hands on Sikozu’s shoulders from behind. “At a very high temperature.”

Crichton approached her from the front. “You can ignite it?”

“The gas is smothering my receptors.” This was not part of her plan, and could get them all killed.

“Come with me Zippo girl, we’re gonna get you to higher ground.” Crichton dragged her near the door, then took her arm. “On my count… one, two, three!” She jumped and shifted her gravity center as Crichton helped flip her upside down, and she landed on the ceiling, above the gas.

“So,” Aeryn struggled to keep Rygel high enough, “basically, you’re going to blow us up?”

“Whoa!” Crichton turned back to Sikozu and she rolled her eyes, even in this time of crises.

“I can direct it. Find cover.” They gathered at the far side of the room, while Sikozu worked to localize her radiation in one of her hands, and then forced it out and towards the door. The blast worked, killing the two Scarran guards and certainly indicating to the command that they were escaping.

Sikozu was unconscious for a few moments afterward, as she always was when using her radiation to such a large degree, but she recovered quickly enough to realize that D’Argo and Chiana were alive, and ready to help them escape. They pulled the weapons off the dead Scarrans, and with a lot of pistol fire, made their way to the Luxan ship belonging to D’Argo’s son.

Somehow, they were once again safe. For now.
