They had been sent on a mission of surveillance. At least, Scorpius had. Sikozu simply went wherever he did.
They did not, of course, perform any reconnaissance. Instead, they attacked – pre-emptively and without official order – and started the war that had seemed inevitable for so long.
Sikozu was pleased.
*******************************
The battle they started raged on. An officer stepped forward to give his report. “The Scarran Vanguard has breached our defense perimeter.”
“We’ve drawn them in sufficiently. The trap is set.” Sikozu clarified, changing comm stations.
“Captain,” as usual, Scorpius was the picture of calm, “initiate the plan, exactly as I instructed.” Captain Bracca, ever the good and loyal soldier, lead his flight team out of the Command Carrier.
Sikozu issued the final instructions. “Fly straight in. Their targeting telemetrics will be corrupted at least two degrees off center by the ambient magnetics. You dare them to hit you.”
*******************************
“Sir, you were absolutely correct.” A smiling Bracca returned to the main command center of the Command Carrier, his fleet having successfully completed their mission. “Their pilots and gunners were no match for ours.”
Scorpius raised a hand to silence him. Concerned, Sikozu turned to him, though it was hard to stop herself from smiling as well after such a decisive victory. “Scorpius?”
“Prepare to withdraw.”
Bracca looked dumbfounded. “What?”
“The rest of the armada is to continue to engage the enemy, covering our escape.” Their leader’s voice was calm, but firm.
“But Sir, we’re winning.” Braca reminded him.
Sikozu’s concern grew. Unpredictability was the one thing she would never get used to with Scorpius, and in this case, it could be deadly. “Without this carrier, all remaining units…”
“My orders,” he interrupted her, “are clear.”
Bracca and Sikozu exchanged a dubious look, then the Captain approached his commander. “Sir, you’re asking us to withdraw our troops, our ships, our…”
Scorpius cut him off, grabbing him by the throat. “Yes, that’s it.” He growled, barely intelligible, and pushed the soldier away. Shaken, Bracca barked orders to prepare for their departure, following his men out of the command area.
“He is alive, Sikozu.” Scorpius approached her, his tone much lighter, grabbed her about the waist and sat her up on a table. “John Crichton is alive.”
There couldn’t have been better news for her to hear. Her plan was back in action.
